NYC Employers:

NYC may soon require employers to annually report pay and demographic data. This comes on the heels of New York’s requirement that employers disclose salary ranges on job postings, signaling greater attention to salary transparency, equity, and accessibility.

On October 9, 2025, the New York City Council passed a pair of bills which, if enacted, would require employers with 200 or more employees (including full-time, part-time and temporary employees) to provide pay reports that include race, ethnicity and gender information as well. Employers would also be required to submit a signed statement confirming the submission and accuracy of the pay report, which must identify the employer as well. In an attempt to hold employers accountable, a designated City agency would also publish annually on its website a list of covered employers that are not in compliance with the law.
