Important Deadlines for San Francisco Employers:
Employers with employees in the Bay Area should be aware that certain deadlines pertaining to the SF Health Care Security Ordinance (HCSO) are fast approaching.
The HCSO is generally applicable to employers with 20+ employees, including employees working outside of San Francisco.
Deadline #1: January 30, 2024
Employers with fully insured plans, or employers with self-insured plans that have employees who declined coverage, must calculate and satisfy their 2023 Q4 health care expenditures by this date .
Examples of health care expenditures may include:
- payments for health, dental, and/or vision insurance for employees and their spouses and dependents;
- payments to the SF City Option on behalf of employees; and
- employer contributions to HSAs
Deadline #2 February 29, 2024
Employers with self-insured health plans must calculate their plan’s expenditure rate and satisfy their remaining 2023 calendar year health care expenditures for all employees enrolled in such coverage.
