California Employers: As you know, PERKS previously reported on the passing of the “No Robo Bosses Act,” which went to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk for signature a few weeks ago.
Governor Newsom has vetoed that bill, which would have placed strict limits on how employers use artificial intelligence in discipline, termination, and scheduling decisions, would have made California the first state to place strict limits on the use artificial intelligence AI in the workplace, and would have prohibited employers from relying solely on artificial intelligence to discipline or fire workers.
In vetoing the bill, Governing Newson stated that he believed the bill was overbroad and potentially harmful to California businesses. We will continue to monitor how lawmakers deal with regulating artificial intelligence in the workplace.
