Earlier this week, a senior manager filed a suit against Accenture LLP in Illinois federal court, alleging failure to promote based on his gender, and retaliation after lodging a complaint about what he believed to be gender bias.
Specifically, he alleges that he was passed over for promotion in favor of less qualified women. As evidence of his claim, the manager points to the company’s public DEI goals to achieve gender parity.
Given the current administration’s executive orders and the EEOC’s recent guidance, this complaint is likely indicative of an increase in discrimination claims in this area. All employers are encouraged to consult with Davis+Gilbert regarding their DEI policies, goals and programs to ensure legal compliance and establish best practices.
