Marking the 61st anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, the EEOC recently rolled out a new data mapping and query tool for employers to more easily assess how their employee pay, broken down by sex and race/ethnicity, compares to others in their industry, job category, or state.
The tool currently relies on 2017-2018 EEO-1 pay data, and aggregates data reported by about 70,000 private employers (with 100 or more employees each year), and certain federal contractors, representing over 100 million workers (as a reminder, pursuant to section 709(c) of Title VII, EEOC regulations require certain employers and other entities covered by Title VII to report workforce demographic information to the EEOC).
The new tool includes helpful features like options to modify queries and results in the dashboard based on certain time frames and/or on particular demographics including sex, race, ethnicity, geography, industry, job category, and salary band.
To make the tool most useful to employers going forward, we expect the EEOC to update the data over time to include more recently collected data.
