D.C. employers! D.C. will soon be joining the growing list of jurisdictions with pay transparency and salary history inquiry laws. On January 12, 2024, the D.C. Mayor signed the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023.
Under this new law, D.C. employers will:
- have to include in all job listings and advertisements the minimum and maximum salary or hourly pay for the position; and
- have to disclose to prospective employees before their first interview the existence of health care benefits that they may receive
- have to post a notice of rights under the new law
- be precluded from screening candidates based on their “wage history”, including that they cannot require a prospective employee’s wage history satisfy minimum or maximum criteria or request or require a candidate to disclose their wage history.
Assuming Congress does not overturn this bill, the law goes into effect June 30, 2024.
