Illinois employers: Another pay transparency update, this time for you. Effective January 1, 2025, employers with 15 or more employees will be required to include the “pay scale and benefits” in any job posting for positions that will be physically performed, at least in part, in Illinois, or will be physically performed outside of Illinois, but where the employee reports to a supervisor, office, or other worksite in Illinois.

“Pay scale and benefits” means “the wage or salary, or the wage or salary range, and a general description of the benefits and other compensation, including, but not limited to, bonuses, stock options, or other incentives the employer reasonably expects in good faith to offer for the position.”

The bill was signed into law on August 11, 2023. Because the effective date is not until January 1, 2025, employers should monitor the Illinois Department of Labor website for guidance on these new obligations closer to the laws effective date.
