This week, the EEOC issued an updated technical assistance document titled: Visual Disabilities in the Workplace and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This guidance explains how the ADA protects job applicants and employees with visual disabilities, and when and how employers are permitted (and not permitted) to ask about an applicant or employee’s vision impairment.
The guidance also discusses reasonable accommodations available to employees with vision challenges, including text-to-speech software, optical character recognition technology and website modifications for accessibility.
