As previously mentioned on D+G PERKS, pay transparency laws are sweeping the nation. Illinois is the latest legislature to pass one, applying to employers with 15+ employees. If signed into law by the governor, it will go into effect on January 1, 2025.

Employers will be required to:

  • post a pay scale and general description of benefits they reasonably expect to offer for in connection with any job posting, or discuss same with applicant if there is no public job post.
  • announce, post, or otherwise make known all opportunities for promotion to all current employees no later than 14 calendar days after posting externally for the position.
  • preserve for 5 years records reflecting pay scale and benefits for each position and any job postings for a position

The law’s requirements extend to positions that will be performed outside of Illinois but reporting to a supervisor, office, or other worksite in the state.
